Casa de Segunda - Katigbak Ancestral House

" Home of Jose Rizal's First Love "
This typical "bahay na bato" was built in 1880 at Lipa City, Batangas.
During this time Lipa was under Spanish Colony.
Casa de Segunda survived during the Second World War and still standing.
And in 1996 it was declared as a Heritage House by The National Historical Institute known today as
The National Commission of the Philippines.

Casa de Segunda Ancestral House was remolded in 1956 and the garden was restored 40 years later.
It has several artifacts that are significant to Philippine History.

JOSE RIZAL'S FIRST LOVE :
Segunda Solis - Katigbak
(1863 - 1943)
Segunda Solis - Katigbak is the daughter of Don Norbeto Kalaw Katigbak and Dona Justa Solis.
The Katigbaks was a prominent family in Lipa City because of their abundance of wealth from 1886 to 1888, wherein Lipa became the worlds sole supplier of coffee.
Segunda is the second child in a family of 7. They are all sent by their parents to Manila.
She studied at Manilas Best School for girls, Colegio de la Concordia in Paco.
Segunda was closed to Olympia, Jose Rizal's sister.
Segunda first met Rizal in a party of a relative of Rizal in Manila.

For about seven months Rizal writes romantic letters and poems for Segunda.
But it was ended.
Segunda was engaged to Manuel Luz; it was more acceptable to her family.
Because that time there's this predominant practice that maidens should marry men within the same
social circle in the locality.
At the age of 14, Segunda married Manuel and results to nine children.
She suffered from a stroke and passed away on June 16, 1943.
Segunda was remembered as Lola Unday.
